Cue Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Obtu Studio LLC (“Obtu Studio”, “we”, “us”) handles information in connection with Cue — a teleprompter and video recorder app for iPhone and iPad (the “App”).
The short version
- Your scripts and recordings stay on your device. We never upload, view, or store them.
- Cue has no accounts — we don’t ask for your name, email, or password.
- We use two service providers: Apple & RevenueCat to manage subscriptions, and PostHog for privacy-conscious usage analytics.
- We never sell your data, and there’s no advertising in Cue.
1. Information stored only on your device
The content you create in Cue is kept locally on your device and is never transmitted to Obtu Studio or any third party:
- Scripts you write or edit.
- Video and audio recordings you capture, along with their thumbnails and metadata (such as title and date).
- App preferences, such as teleprompter appearance and scroll settings.
If you delete a recording in the App, or delete the App itself, this on-device data is removed. Because we never receive it, we cannot retrieve or restore it for you.
2. Camera, microphone & photo library
Cue asks for these device permissions only when you use the related feature, and uses them strictly on your device:
| Permission | Why Cue asks |
|---|---|
| Camera | To show the camera preview and record video of you while you read your script. The teleprompter text is not burned into the recording. |
| Microphone | To record audio together with your video. |
| Add to Photos | Only when you choose to export a recording to your photo library. Cue does not read your existing photos. |
Camera and microphone data is used solely to produce your local recording. It is never streamed or uploaded to us.
3. Purchases and subscriptions
Cue offers an optional paid subscription (“Cue Pro”). Purchases are processed by Apple through your Apple Account, and are managed on our side with RevenueCat. Through this process we receive:
- A randomly generated app user identifier (created by RevenueCat) used to keep your subscription in sync across your devices;
- Your subscription status (for example, whether Cue Pro is active, and its renewal or expiration dates).
We do not receive your name, your Apple ID, or your credit-card or payment details — Apple handles payment and does not share those with us. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy and Apple’s Privacy Policy.
4. Usage analytics
To understand how Cue is used and to improve it, we collect limited, privacy-conscious analytics through PostHog (processed on servers in the United States). We have deliberately turned off session recording, screen tracking, and automatic interaction capture. We only record a small set of named events, such as: creating a script, opening the teleprompter, starting or finishing a recording, saving a recording to Photos, sharing a recording, viewing the subscription screen, and completing or restoring a purchase.
With those events, PostHog may process:
- A pseudonymous identifier — the same random app user identifier used for subscriptions — so we can measure things like activation, not to identify you personally;
- Whether the subscription is active (an
is_proflag); - Basic technical context such as app version, device type, and operating-system version;
- Your IP address, which the analytics provider may use to infer an approximate (city/country-level) location. We do not collect precise GPS location.
Analytics events never include your scripts, recordings, or any content you create. See PostHog’s Privacy Policy.
5. What we do not collect
- No account, login, name, or password.
- No email address (unless you choose to email us — see Contact below).
- No contacts, calendars, precise location, or health data.
- No content of your scripts or recordings.
- No advertising identifiers, and no third-party ad networks.
6. How we use information
We use the limited information described above only to: operate and provide the App and its features; deliver and sync your subscription; understand aggregate usage so we can fix problems and improve Cue; and comply with our legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
7. Service providers
We rely on a small number of trusted providers that process data on our behalf:
- Apple — App distribution and payment processing (privacy policy).
- RevenueCat — Subscription management (privacy policy).
- PostHog — Product analytics (privacy policy).
8. Data retention
On-device content stays until you delete it or remove the App. Subscription records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat for as long as needed to provide and account for the subscription. Analytics events are retained by PostHog according to our configured retention settings and their policies. Because analytics data is pseudonymous, we may not be able to link it back to a specific individual.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, or to object to certain processing (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA/CPRA).
- Most of your data lives on your device — you can delete individual recordings in the App, or delete the App to remove all local content.
- You can stop analytics collection at any time by deleting the App.
- To exercise a data request regarding subscription or analytics data, email us at hello@obtustudio.com and we will respond as required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
10. Children’s privacy
Cue is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International users
Obtu Studio is based in the United States, and our service providers process data in the United States and other countries. If you use Cue from outside these regions, you understand your information may be processed where data-protection laws differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
12. Security
We keep data collection to a minimum and rely on Apple’s platform protections and our providers’ security measures. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the limited information we handle.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we will provide additional notice where appropriate. Continued use of Cue after an update means you accept the revised policy.
